Apple is the world's second-largest information technology company by revenue after Samsung Electronics and the world's third-largest mobile phone maker after Samsung and Nokia. Fortune magazine named Apple the most admired company in the United States in 2008, and in the world from 2008 to 2012. However, the company has received criticism for its contractors' labor practices, and for Apple's own environmental and business practices.

The revolutionary App Store℠ offers more than 800,000 apps to iPhone, iPad and iPod touch® users, with more than 300,000 native iPad apps. App Store customers have downloaded over 40 billion apps, and Apple has paid over seven billion dollars to its incredible developer community. Customers can choose from apps in 23 categories, including newspapers and magazines offered in Newsstand, games, business, news, sports, health & fitness and travel.

Windows Phone is a series of proprietary mobile operating systems developed by Microsoft, and is the successor to its Windows Mobile platform although incompatible with it. Unlike its predecessor, it is primarily aimed at the consumer market rather than the enterprise market. It was first launched in October 2010, with a release in Asia following in early 2011. The latest release of Windows Phone is Windows Phone 8, which has been available to consumers since October 29, 2012. Microsoft also has a new version, Windows Phone Apollo Plus, in the works.  With Windows Phone, Microsoft created a new user interface, featuring its design language called the Modern design language. Additionally, the software is integrated with third party services and Microsoft services, and sets minimum requirements for the hardware on which it runs.

HTC One

Instead of just focusing on a higher megapixel count in your camera, HTC has gone for larger pixels on the CMOS sensor (about 4 square microns) instead of the 1.96 square micron pixels on the One X's 8-megapixel sensor). There's also optical image stabilization built-in, which should help with video taking.

Design-wise, the metal chassis is a nice return to the days of the HTC Sensation and the metal unibody builds of HTC's previous smartphones. We're fans of both the black and silver models and the handset feels nice in our hands. It also frames the 4.7-inch full-HD display nicely.

The new Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 1.7GHz quad-core processor should also help to keep things zipping along together with the smartphone's 2GB of RAM. It also has 32GB of onboard storage (though less after you factor in the space the Android OS takes up).

Top Water Proof and Dust Proof Phones

Sony Xperia Z

A 1.5 GHz quad-core Snapdragon chip powers a slew of on board radios, including LTE, WCDMA, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and NFC. On board storage is limited to 16GB, but a microSD slot allows for up to 32GB of additional space. The NFC chip supports short-range wireless connection to a host of Sony devices, including all 2013 Sony TVs and a new line of headphones and speakers. The 13-megapixel camera is very fast and images captured appear quite clear, though we weren't able to view any photos on a larger display. Audio quality is crisp, as well.

Most impressive, however, is the 441 ppi display — this might be one of the most incredible screens we've ever seen on a mobile device. Colors are sharp and clear, video just about leaps of the screen… it’s really an impressive experience.

The Fastest Prossecor Phones

LG Optimus G Pro

The phone measures 5.875 inches tall and 3 inches wide. On the left, you have a flushed volume rocker that's situated quite low on the edge -- almost right in the middle of the body. I found myself often pressing the empty space between the rocker and the QuickMemo shortcut key (which sits right above it), when trying to turn up the sound. Up top are a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a small collapsible TV antenna on the right corner. On the right is a sleep/power button and at the very bottom is a Micro-USB port for charging. Also this phone has a 5.5 inch screen.

In a nutshell, it takes all of the hardware and software LG brought in the original, smaller Optimus G in the fall of 2012 and expands it to a larger platform. The display sports a 1920x1080 resolution, for about 400 pixels per inch. The internal specs are beefier, powered by a 1.7 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor, the better to push all those pixels. Sluggish, this device is not.

 Top  Camera Phones

Nokia 808 Pureview

Remember that Nokia PureView tease from a few days ago? Well, suddenly it all makes sense. We are indeed looking at an imaging flagship phone and a true successor to the N8. Before we move on to its craziest feature -- the camera, of course! -- let's run down the other key specs: The OS is Symbian Belle; the engine is a 1.3GHz single-core chip; the display is 4-inches corner to corner but its resolution is a Nokia-style 360 x 640 (nHD). There's 512MB of RAM and 16GB of on-board storage that is thankfully expandable via microSD.

A Pentaband modem increases the chances of getting a signal while globe-trotting, while data speeds will top out at plain HSPA 14.4Mbps. Now that Carl Zeiss-lensed camera: it handles continuous-focus 1080p, but is claimed to have an incredible sensor resolution of over 41-megapixels when shooting stills -- or 34-megapixels for 16:9 images. It uses some clever interpolation jiggery-pokery that condenses four or five pixels into one pixel, to produce a smaller file size for the output image.

Nokia Lumia 920

Nokia Lumia 920 is a smartphone developed by Nokia that runs the Windows Phone 8 operating system. It was announced on September 5, 2012, and was first released on November 2, 2012. It has a 1.5 GHz dual-core Qualcomm Krait CPU and a 114 mm (4.5″) IPS TFT LCD display, as well as a high-sensitivity capacitive touchscreen that is covered by curved Gorilla Glass. It supports inductive charging (it can be charged by being placed directly onto a charging pad) and is compatible with Qi Inductive Charging; further, it features an 8.7 megapixel PureView camera with optical image stabilization for still images and videos.

It comes with 32 GB internal storage, but has no card slot; hence it cannot be expanded with memory cards. Its touchscreen also can be used with the gloves worn by the user.

Biggest Display Phones

Huawei Ascend Mate

The Huawei Ascend Mate is an Android smartphone manufactured by the Chinese telecommunications company Huawei. The Ascend Mate was officially unveiled at the 2013 International CES in Las Vegas, and is expected to be released in China in February 2013 with an international release to follow in March.

In size, the device straddles the large end of smartphones and the small end of tablets and is thus known as a phablet — a portmonteau of phone and tablet.

The Ascend Mate features a 6.1-inch screen (which the company considers to be the largest screen ever used on a smartphone), and a 4050 mAh battery with over 22 hours of talk time (in comparison to the close to 17 hours achieved by the Samsung Galaxy Note II).

Screen size: 6.1 inch

ZTE Grand Memo

ZTE caught us by surprise, outing a Snapdragon 800-infused version Snapdragon 600 variant of the Grand Memo at its MWC 2013 presser. The device, which still features the same 5.7-inch (720p) display, 13-megapixel rear camera and 3,200mAh battery, is nearly indistinguishable from the other variants we've seen. But for this go-round, ZTE's added in Dolby Digital Plus Surround for a superior audio experience and an extra GB of RAM. Its external chassis may have remained the same -- plasticky and lightweight -- but the difference in this 8.9mm-thick Memo's real-world performance is immediately noticeable.

OS actions on the skinned Jelly Bean UI don't just zip, they now quite literally fly -- truly, this device is deserving of the long-deceased "beast" moniker. Although international trade show WiFi connections are typically dreadful, we did manage to successfully run the SunSpider benchmark to get a quick taste of its rendering performance. The result? The Grand Memo notched a score of 1,186.7ms -- an unimpressive result when contrasted with the Tegra 4's 499ms (as derived from a reference tablet).

Screen size: 5.7

Longest Lasting Battery Phones

Motorola Droid Razr Maxx HD

Sitting at the top of the company's 2012 lineup, it's the most impressive Android handset I've ever used, and it had better be considering its sky-high sticker price. If you're willing to spend the big bucks, though, you get a lot to like, such as swift dual-core processing, a 4G LTE data connection, and a gorgeous 4.7-inch HD AMOLED screen, and then there's that battery. As it's equipped with the same legendary 3,300mAh high-capacity battery that propelled the Droid Razr Maxx to greatness, saying the Razr Maxx HD has staying power is a laughable understatement.

All this plus an elegant and durable design might just help you forget that the phone's camera is woefully behind the curve.

Talk time: Up to 32 h

Motorola Droid Razr Maxx

The Motorola Droid Razr Maxx was recently updated to run Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Be sure to check out our hands-on with the phone and its refreshed software. Motorola ups the Android ante with its new creation, the Droid Razr Maxx. Not only does this superslim handset come equipped with all the outstanding features that graced the first Droid Razr, Motorola has thrown in an energy-dense 3,300mAh battery, too. Promised to run for days on end, the Maxx could be the longest-lasting, most powerful smartphone we've ever seen.

Interestingly, the company can't make the same boast about the Droid Razr Maxx. Measuring 5.14 inches long by 2.75 inches wide by 0.35 inch thick and weighing 5.1 ounces, the Maxx is slightly thicker and heavier than its predecessor (0.28 inch, 4.5 ounces). Even so, it still feels very svelte and lightweight, despite its larger size. I also found that it fit well into my pants pocket, though with an embarrassing bulge. Of course, people with small hands will have trouble grasping the big-screened, wide-bezelled device. Gone, though, is the hump in the back of the phone that held the camera lens and made the first Droid Razr top-heavy. In fact, the way Motorola managed to squeeze in the Razr Maxx's more powerful battery was to fill in that hump. It was a smart design call since without the hump the Maxx feels more balanced even as it sports a thicker profile.

Talk time: Up to 21 h 30 min
